Where the settings live
Open Dashboard, then Notifications. Each setting is yours alone and applies to the current workspace only. Every member of a workspace sets their own, so a teammate turning an email off does not change yours. If you belong to more than one workspace, set each one separately; see Teams and workspaces.
Every email kind has three choices:
- Off: nothing is sent. Everything is still recorded in the app.
- Daily digest: one email at the end of the day (UTC). Nothing arrives on a day with no activity.
- Immediately: within about five minutes.
The ? beside each setting explains what sets it off and what the email contains.
When someone opens a link
Sent when a recipient opens one of the workspace's share links for the first time. Your own opens never count. The default is Immediately; you can change it when you sign up or at any time on the Notifications page.
A reader coming back to a document they already opened never sends an immediate email. Return visits are reported once a day, at the end of the day (UTC), as "came back", on both Daily digest and Immediately.
On Immediately, you get one email per document, so several readers opening the same document close together arrive as one email.
The email says which link was opened and when, and links straight to that reader's activity. It names the reader when known, with the pages reached and time spent, on every plan. A name the reader typed in themselves is marked as not verified. See Analytics for what each plan shows.
Turning emails off from the email
Every notification email ends with Turn off these emails and Change how often. The off link works without signing in, turns off only that kind of email, and only for the workspace the email came from. You can turn it back on from the Notifications page.
Other email kinds
- Doc update emails: someone replaced a document and the comparison found real changes. A re-upload that changes nothing sends nothing. The default is a daily digest.
- New documents from teammates: someone else in the workspace uploaded a document. Your own uploads never send you one, so a workspace with a single member never sends these. The default is a daily digest.
Other emails, such as a download request, a reader introducing themselves or a failed payment, are single messages with no setting. See the list on the Notifications page shows every one of them and what causes it.
Slack
The same moments can post to a Slack channel, among them a first open, a visit brief, a replaced document, a new document and a document added to a project, each with a link back. Connect a channel from Integrations in the sidebar. Slack posts are set for the whole workspace and do not change anyone's email settings; see Slack for the full list.
The activity feed
Activity in the sidebar lists everything that happens in the workspace, grouped by day. Filter by type (Uploads, Sharing, Documents, Projects, Tags, Contacts, Integrations, Views, Members) and by who did it (Everyone, Me, Teammates, Agents). Visit briefs appear under Views. Readers are named in the feed on every plan: a signed-in reader by their LinkDrop account, anyone else by the name they typed in, if any.
Visit briefs
A visit brief is a short written account of one reader's visit: what held them, what they never opened, how long they stayed, whether they came back and how it compares with their last visit. Under the write-up it lists the pages they came back to, spent time on, never opened and flicked past (opened for under 3 seconds), and how many they skimmed.
The AI writes it from the record of the visit, the headings of the pages involved and the text of the pages that held the reader longest or that they came back to. The reader's name and email go with it (the workspace sees them on every plan); nothing else the reader typed is sent. See Privacy and security.
- When it arrives: a few minutes after the reader stops. A visit is considered over once it has been quiet for two minutes, so a closed tab is usually briefed within about seven minutes. A tab left open can take longer; a visit still going after six hours is briefed as it stands.
- Every plan. Free and Pro get a brief after every visit worth one. Every Free workspace's first brief is on us; after that each brief comes out of your credits (starter credits and any credit packs). Its See the whole visit link opens the reader's page, where the brief is shown. It names the reader on every plan.
- 1 credit per brief at Standard, the default level, or 3 credits at Advanced, which uses a stronger model. An owner or admin picks the level in the Brief every visit row on the dashboard Automations tab, and it also applies to Write the brief. The free brief costs nothing and is always written at Standard. When a Free workspace is out of credits, the visit is still recorded and emailed as facts without the write-up, and you are offered a credit pack.
- Not every visit earns one. A glance, under twenty seconds and fewer than two pages, gets no brief and no brief email. The open itself is still counted in the open email and on the metrics page. Your own opens are never briefed.
- Up to 100 briefs a day per workspace (UTC). Past that, the rest of the day's visits get the facts by email without the write-up. Briefs are paid from the same credits as upload summaries, so to keep credits for summaries, clear Brief every visit (below).
- Briefs are stored on the reader's page and appear as a row in the activity feed.
- Members of the workspace receive brief emails at their own setting. For a document in a private (locked) project, only that project's members do.
- When the reader is one of your contacts with a recent reader summary, the brief email quotes it under Across all their visits, and in Slack it is posted as a reply in the thread of that visit's brief, never as a message of its own.
The brief email
The setting is When someone finishes reading, with the choices Off, Daily digest and After each visit (the default). The subject line is the brief's headline. The body covers who read it, through which link, for how long, the brief itself, what caught their attention, the pages they came back to, spent time on, never opened, flicked past and skimmed, time per page and the reading path, with a link to the reader's page.
With both kinds on their defaults you get two emails per first visit: the open email, then the brief minutes after the reader leaves. For one email per visit, keep the brief and set When someone opens a link to Off.
Briefs and your agent
A connected agent can read a document's recent visits and their briefs with lnkdrp_get_share_stats, so you can ask it what a reader looked at. It gets every visit and names the reader on every plan. See Connect your agent.
Turning briefs off
- For yourself: set When someone finishes reading to Off on the Notifications page, or use the off link in a brief email. Briefs are still written, charged and kept on the reader's page.
- For the whole workspace: an owner or admin opens Dashboard, then Automations, and turns off Brief every visit; it saves straight away. No credits are spent and nothing is written. On Pro you still receive an email with the facts of the visit. On Free, the free brief is kept for later rather than spent.
When credits run out
You still get the email with the facts of the visit: pages, times and return count. The write-up is skipped, the email says so, and the Notifications page shows a Paused note next to the setting. Briefs resume when you add credits on the Credits page. See Credits and plans.
