How to connect ChatGPT to LinkDrop
Add LinkDrop to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server with OAuth, then sign in. No terminal needed.

How ChatGPT connects
ChatGPT adds LinkDrop as a custom MCP server from Settings › Apps (called Plugins in some versions), with the server URL and OAuth as the authentication. ChatGPT then opens LinkDrop so you can sign in and pick the workspace; no key changes hands.
LinkDrop is not in ChatGPT's app directory yet, so ChatGPT connects by URL, as in the steps below. What ChatGPT does shows as ChatGPT in your activity feed and on the Agents page, where an owner or admin can revoke it.
Before you start
- A LinkDrop account. Connecting an agent works on every plan, Free included.
- A ChatGPT account where Settings › Apps offers Add custom MCP server.
- Optional: Google Drive connected on LinkDrop's Integrations page, so ChatGPT can share files from your Drive.
Open Apps
In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps (called Plugins in some versions), and choose Add custom MCP server.
Enter the server details
Enter a name and the server URL below, and choose OAuth as the authentication. Leave the advanced OAuth settings as ChatGPT discovered them.

Tick the box to confirm you understand the risk of a custom server, then click Create.
ChatGPT opens LinkDrop. Sign in if you are not already, pick the workspace ChatGPT should work in, and click Allow.
Verify
Ask your agent: “Which LinkDrop workspace are you connected to?”
Back on Agents, the agent is listed as Signed in, and the status turns to Connected on its first call. Revoke it there at any time.
Disconnect or reconnect
To disconnect, revoke the agent on the Agents page (it stops at once) and remove LinkDrop from ChatGPT's Apps settings. To connect again, add the server and sign in.
More than one workspace
A connection belongs to one workspace, and your client keeps one server per name. To connect another workspace, add LinkDrop again under a different name, any name you will recognize, such as LinkDrop Acme (LinkDrop-Acme in a command), and pick that workspace when you sign in, or use a key created there. Existing connections keep working, and your agent sees them all; lnkdrp_whoami on each says which workspace it acts on.
LinkDrop AcmePick that workspace when you sign in. Any name works, as long as each workspace has its own.
Try asking ChatGPT
- “Find the investor update in my Google Drive and share it as a LinkDrop link.”
- “Who read the pricing sheet, and which pages did they spend time on?”
- “Make a link to the Series A memo for Priya that expires in a week.”
- “List my LinkDrop documents tagged Fundraising.”
- “Turn off the link I sent to Acme Capital.”
Plain requests: your agent picks the LinkDrop tools for each. Checked against LinkDrop's tool list on 2026-10-13. The documents and people in them are examples.
Error messages you may see
This person has not connected Google Drive to LinkDrop.

Connect Google Drive on LinkDrop's Integrations page, then ask again. Or give your agent a public link to the PDF instead.
That credential has been revoked. Sign in again from your client, or create a new key at https://www.lnkdrp.com/agents and update this client's Authorization header.

Uploads and links still work; the AI summary and other AI actions wait for credits. Add credits on LinkDrop's Credits page, or wait for the monthly reset on Pro.
Troubleshooting ChatGPT
- ChatGPT does not show a LinkDrop tool that other clients have.
- ChatGPT keeps the list of tools it saw when the server was added and does not reload it. Remove LinkDrop from ChatGPT's Apps settings, add it again and sign in.
- ChatGPT shows a LinkDrop card with Delete, Always allow and Cancel.
- That is LinkDrop asking you before a destructive action. Only a click on the card counts; ChatGPT saying yes on your behalf deletes nothing. Click Delete (Archive when archiving) to go ahead, or Cancel.
ChatGPT questions
- Is LinkDrop in ChatGPT's app directory?
- Not yet. Add it by URL as a custom MCP server, as in the steps on this page.
- Which authentication do I choose for LinkDrop in ChatGPT?
- OAuth. Leave the advanced OAuth settings as ChatGPT discovered them; ChatGPT registers itself with LinkDrop, and you sign in and click Allow.
- Can ChatGPT share a PDF from my Google Drive through LinkDrop?
- Yes, once Google Drive is connected on LinkDrop's Integrations page. LinkDrop fetches the file from Google itself, so nothing is uploaded through ChatGPT.
Any client: common problems
- My client never opened the sign-in page.
- Look for Authenticate, Login or /mcp auth next to LinkDrop in your client. No such option? Use an API key instead.
- My client says LinkDrop already exists.
- Changing the key? Remove the old entry, then add it again. Another workspace? Add it under a different name, such as LinkDrop-Acme.
- I get 401 unauthorized.
- The key was revoked or pasted with a stray space. Create a new one; revoking the old one is safe.
- The agent sees the wrong workspace.
- Each connection is tied to one workspace. Add LinkDrop again under a name of its own, such as LinkDrop-Acme, for that workspace.
- How does LinkDrop know which client connected?
- Your agent's app tells LinkDrop its name when it connects.
- Can I have more than one key?
- Yes, up to 10. One per agent lets you revoke one without touching the rest.
Still stuck? Connect your agent walks through it in full, and How LinkDrop Works covers the rest.
