Credits and plans

What Free and Pro include, what costs credits, how to buy more, and what happens at the limits, at zero credits, or when a payment fails.

Free and Pro

Plans are per workspace. Upgrade a workspace once and everything in it is on Pro. Your other workspaces keep their own plan.

Free, $0 forever:

  • 10 shared documents. Links are not a plan limit: up to 50 per document at a time, on every plan. A document counts while sharing is on; archive it or turn sharing off to free the slot. See Share links.
  • 2 projects, each with as many project links as you need.
  • Full reader analytics: who opened it, how each reader read it, page by page, every visit over the whole history, and what they came back to or skipped. See Analytics.
  • A visit brief after every finished visit, 1 credit each at Standard (3 at Advanced) from your credits. Your first one is on us, written at Standard. See Notifications and visit briefs.
  • A reader profile of each reader who introduces themselves: who they are, from public professional sources, 3 credits each at Standard (6 at Advanced), with free updates after later visits. Free never bills on demand: when the credits run out, buy a pack. See Contacts.
  • Password protection and download control.
  • One Slack channel, posting every kind of update.
  • Single user. You can own two workspaces.
  • 100 credits to start, one time, to spend whenever you like.

Pro, per workspace, $29 a month or $290 a year:

  • Unlimited documents, share links and projects.
  • The same reader analytics as Free, with briefs (1 credit each at Standard, 3 at Advanced) and reader profiles (3 credits each at Standard, 6 at Advanced) from the larger monthly allowance. See Analytics.
  • Recipients can browse every version and see what changed.
  • 500 credits a month.
  • Slack channels without limit, each project routed to its own. See Slack.
  • 3 teammates beyond the owner who can upload and share, plus unlimited free viewers. Agents never take a seat. See Teams and workspaces.
  • Once any workspace you own is on Pro, you can create more than two.

Yearly Pro is the same plan, twelve months for the price of ten, and still includes 500 credits every month. See Pricing for the full comparison.

What credits pay for

Credits are only spent when the AI reads a document. Uploads, replacements, links, passwords, expiry, downloads and analytics never cost credits.

Per runCredits
Summary and key points1

One price, and no level to choose. You pick a level for AI compare, visit briefs and reader profiles:

Per runBasicStandardAdvanced
AI compare (what changed between versions)2512
Visit brief (first on Free is on us, at Standard)–13
Reader profile (once per reader; history updates free)–36
  • The summary is written automatically on every upload. If it was skipped or it failed, click Write summary · 1 credit on the document page to write it again for the same 1 credit.
  • LinkDrop always writes the summary, including for documents your agent shares; an agent cannot supply its own. The summary costs 0 credits for files recipients upload through a replace link. See Connect your agent.
  • AI compare runs automatically when you replace a PDF: at Basic on Free, at Standard on Pro. You can run it again by hand from the document's version history, with Run AI compare or Regenerate, and pick the level each time.
  • Visit briefs and reader profiles run at Standard unless an owner or admin picks Advanced on the dashboard Automations tab. The level applies everywhere: the automatic brief, Write the brief, the automatic reader profile and Refresh research on a contact. There is no Basic level for either. A Free workspace's first brief is on us and is always written at Standard.
  • A reader profile is made once per reader, a few minutes after they introduce themselves by typing a name and email. Updates to its history after later visits are free. A reader is researched again automatically at most every 30 days, when they come back, or whenever the workspace owner clicks Refresh research. If the research fails, the credits go back.

Quality levels: Basic is a quick pass for short documents and everyday changes (AI compare only). Standard reads more carefully, and is the default for briefs and reader profiles. Advanced is the deepest reading, on a stronger model, for long or high-stakes documents and the most careful briefs. For reader profiles, Standard is a quick look at who they are, their company and role, and how they fit what they read; Advanced adds their career history, recent public news from the last 12 months, their company's stage and funding, and specific ties between their background and the documents they read.

Owners and admins can change these on the dashboard Automations tab: whether each automatic run happens at all (Summarize every upload, Compare every replacement, Brief every visit and Profile each reader, all four on by default) and, in the compare, brief and reader profile rows, the level each runs at. Each row shows what one run costs at the level picked. A run that is switched off spends nothing. The Limits tab is for on-demand and its cap.

See /costs for the full table. Every run is listed on the dashboard Usage tab, with your credits left.

Where credits come from

  • Free: 100 starter credits per workspace, once. They do not expire, and there is no monthly top-up. There is no daily limit: upload summaries, visit briefs and reader research all draw on the same 100. When the starter credits run out, buy a credit pack at /credits or upgrade.
  • Credit packs: 75 credits for $7, 150 for $14, or 400 for $37, paid once through Stripe. The credits land in the workspace right away and expire 12 months after purchase. They are spent after Pro's included credits and before Free's starter credits. Packs are for Free and for yearly Pro. Monthly Pro uses on-demand instead.
  • Pro: 500 credits each month, reset on your renewal date once the renewal payment goes through (usually within the hour). Until then you keep using what is left of the last cycle. Unused credits do not roll over. On yearly Pro the 500 reset every month, on the same day of the month you subscribed.
  • On-demand (monthly Pro only): extra credits at $0.10 each, added to that month's invoice, under a hard spend limit you set on the dashboard Limits tab under On-demand limit. Choose Off or click Turn off to stop it. Turning it off stops new usage; what was already used is still billed. The limit resets each billing cycle.

What happens at zero credits

Uploads still complete and links keep working. The AI runs pause:

  • The automatic summary is skipped. You can write it later from the document page for 1 credit.
  • AI compare is skipped; the version is still recorded and you can compare later.
  • Visit briefs become a plain recap of the visit, without the write-up.
  • Reader profiles are not researched; the contact page says the workspace was out of credits, and nothing is charged. History updates still run, because they are free.

The app says so: a banner at the top of every page (dismiss it for the session), the AI credits row in the sidebar turns into an Out of AI credits warning, and a reader's page shows Not written: out of credits where a brief would be. Each one has a button to add credits: Buy credits on Free and yearly Pro, or on-demand on monthly Pro. Before that, at 10 credits or fewer, or at a tenth of your plan's credits, the same banner says how many are left and the sidebar row turns amber and says AI credits running low. The workspace owners also get an email when the credits run low and again when they run out, and a connected agent is told too, with the link to add credits (none of this while on-demand is on).

They resume as soon as the workspace has credits again: a pack, an upgrade, on-demand, or the next monthly reset.

Going over a Free limit

Existing links never stop working. At the document cap, a new document is created with sharing off until you archive another or upgrade. At the project cap, creating another project asks you to upgrade.

A workspace that drops from Pro to Free while over a Free limit, or that was over one when the limits were introduced, gets a 14-day grace period. The owners get an email when it starts, reminders on day 7 and day 12, and a last email when new documents and projects are blocked. Get back under the limits or upgrade and the grace period ends.

Upgrading and billing

  • Upgrade from Pricing, with Upgrade to Pro (or Yearly, 2 months free) on the dashboard Overview or Usage tab, or with the button on the Billing & Invoices tab that names the workspace (for example Upgrade Acme to Pro). Only owners and admins can upgrade. Checkout is through Stripe.
  • There is no free trial of Pro. Free is the way to try LinkDrop; Pro is charged from the day you upgrade.
  • Owners and admins manage billing, and only they can see invoices. Manage subscription on the Billing & Invoices tab opens the Stripe billing portal, where you change the card and see invoices.
  • To cancel, click Cancel subscription on the Billing & Invoices tab. Pro stays active until the end of the paid period, then the workspace returns to Free and the Free limits apply again. Until that date, Resume Pro undoes the cancellation.
  • If a payment does not go through, the workspace is on Free until one does, and on-demand is switched off. The person who subscribed gets one email per failed invoice, and the Billing & Invoices tab says Payment failed: update your card with an Update card button that opens the billing portal. There is no need to subscribe again: once the payment is taken, Pro comes back. Turn on-demand back on afterwards if you use it.
  • Each workspace is billed separately, with its own plan, credits and invoices.
