What the Google Drive integration does
Once you connect your Google Drive, your agent can share a file from it as a LinkDrop document. You name the file, or paste its link, and LinkDrop fetches it from Google itself. Nothing is downloaded to your computer or uploaded through your AI client. That matters when your client cannot upload files at all, for example Cowork when your organization's network policy blocks uploads.
On the Integrations page, Google Drive is under Data ingestion: where your files come from, as opposed to Data distribution, where LinkDrop sends what happens. This is the best way to get a file to your agent. Getting a file to your agent lists the other ways, in order.
What files work
- PDFs, as they are, up to 50 MB.
- Google Docs, Slides and Sheets, turned into a PDF by Google first. Google does this for files up to 10 MB; for a larger one, download it as a PDF in Google, save that PDF to Drive, and share the PDF.
Other kinds of file, such as Word documents or images, are not imported. Convert them to PDF first. A Drive folder cannot be shared as one document; share the files in it one at a time, or put them in a project.
Connect Google Drive
- Click Integrations in the left sidebar, or go to lnkdrp.com/integrations.
- Under Data ingestion, on the Google Drive row, click Connect. Google opens in a new tab, so the page you were on stays as it was.
- Choose your Google account and allow LinkDrop to see your Drive files.
The new tab says Google Drive is connected and can be closed. Back in the tab you started in, the row says Connected as with your Google address, without reloading. If you closed Google's tab before finishing, the button says Waiting for Google…; click it to open Google's screen again. Any member of a workspace can connect their own Drive, on every plan.
While LinkDrop's Google verification is in progress, Google may show a warning that it has not verified the app. Only accounts LinkDrop has added as testers can continue past it for now. This note stays until Google finishes verifying LinkDrop.
Ask your agent
Ask in plain words, naming the file the way you would to a colleague:
- "Share the Q3 board deck from my Google Drive with Priya."
- "Find the USAVX deck in our Drive and put it in Fundraising."
- "Replace the pricing sheet with the latest version from Drive."
The agent searches your Drive by name, shows you the matches when more than one fits, and asks which one before sharing. The new document is named after the Drive file unless you give it another name, and it is summarized and counted like any other upload.
Share by link
You can also paste the file's link from your browser's address bar, for example "Share this with Priya: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/…". These links work:
- A Google Docs, Slides or Sheets link, such as
docs.google.com/document/d/…/edit. - A Google Drive file link, such as
drive.google.com/file/d/…/viewordrive.google.com/open?id=….
The agent skips the search and imports that exact file through your connection, whatever its sharing setting in Drive. Without Drive connected, a Docs, Slides or Sheets link does not work, and your agent gives you the link to the Integrations page instead. A Drive link to a PDF still works without connecting, but only if the file is shared with anyone who has the link.
The link back to the original
A document that came from Google Drive shows From Google Drive at the top of its page, next to the title. Click it to open the original file in Drive; hover over it to see the file's name and when it was imported. On a phone it shows as the Drive icon. The document's version history shows From Google Drive on each version that came from Drive, too.
LinkDrop keeps its own copy of the PDF as it was when it was imported, so your recipients always see the version you shared. Editing the file in Drive does not change the LinkDrop document. To share the new version, ask your agent to replace the document from Drive.
Replace a document from Drive
Ask your agent to replace a document with a file from Drive, for example "Update the pricing sheet link with the latest version from my Drive". The new file goes onto the same document, so every share link keeps its address, its settings and its analytics, and recipients see the new version on the link they already have. Replacing never counts as a new shared document. The new version links back to its Drive file the same way.
Whose Drive an agent uses
The connection belongs to you, in the workspace you connected it in. An agent uses it only when it acts as you: an agent you connected, or one using an API key you created. A teammate's agent cannot read your Drive, and your agent cannot read theirs. If you work in more than one workspace, connect Drive in each one you want to share from.
Each agent also needs your permission to use Drive, separately from connecting Drive itself. It is off unless you turn it on:
- An agent you connect by signing in: tick Also let it use your Google Drive on the screen where you click Allow. It is offered only to apps LinkDrop recognizes, and only when the agent asks to make changes, not just to read.
- An API key: tick Let this key use my Google Drive when you create it on the Agents page.
Keys and agents you connected before this permission existed do not have it. To give one Drive, create a new key with the box ticked, or disconnect the agent on the Agents page and connect it again with the box ticked. The Agents page marks every key and agent that can use Drive.
What LinkDrop stores and never does
LinkDrop asks Google for read-only access, and uses it only to find and import the files you or your agent ask for. It never changes, moves, shares or deletes anything in your Drive, and it never reads files nobody asked for.
- Stored: your Google connection, encrypted, with your Google address and when you connected; and for each file you import, a copy of the PDF plus the file's name, type, Drive link and when it was imported, so the document can link back to it.
- Never: nothing from your Drive is used to train AI models or for advertising, and it is never sold.
The Privacy Policy has the full commitment.
Disconnect
Click Disconnect on the Google Drive row. LinkDrop revokes its access at Google and deletes its stored connection at once; documents you already shared from Drive stay in LinkDrop, and their From Google Drive link still opens the original for anyone who can open it in Drive. You can also remove LinkDrop from your Google account's third-party access settings, and LinkDrop notices the next time an agent tries to use it.
Troubleshooting
- The agent says it is not allowed to use Google Drive. Drive is connected, but that agent was not given permission to use it. Create a new key with Google Drive ticked, or disconnect the agent on the Agents page and connect it again, ticking Google Drive. See Whose Drive an agent uses.
- The agent says Google Drive is not connected. Connect it on the Integrations page, in the same workspace the agent is working in. Ask your agent "Which LinkDrop workspace are you connected to?" if you are not sure.
- The agent asks you to reconnect. Google stopped accepting the connection, for example because you removed LinkDrop in your Google account. Click Reconnect on the Google Drive row.
- The agent cannot find a file. It searches by name. Give it a word from the file's name, paste the file's link instead, and check the file is in a Drive your Google account can open.
- The file is too large. Google converts Docs, Slides and Sheets up to 10 MB. Download a larger one as a PDF, save that PDF to Drive, and share the PDF, which can be up to 50 MB.
